Sadly I am writing to you to inform you that the advice service we provide for Barnet residents is to close down, with immediate effect. Therefore this means that we have to close your case.
From January 2009 we will only be able to advise those residents who live in the boroughs of Camden and Westminster.
Why have we had to close?
The funding of our service was previously provided by the London Borough of Barnet (Barnet Council) who actually stopped funding the service in March 2008. We had hoped that the funding would be picked up by Barnet Primary Care Trust and because of this we continued to provide a service throughout 2008. We received news from Barnet Primary Care Trust in late December 2008 that they would not be providing any further funding. They informed us that although they understood the important and invaluable service that we have provided for people in Barnet, advice and welfare rights services are not a priority for funding, especially within the current economic climate. We have therefore had to take the difficult decision to close the service.
We are obviously very disappointed by this news, especially when we had received letters from a variety of doctors and other professionals, who told us how much the service was valued and how much difference it made to the lives of service users. We would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support.
Barnet residents will therefore no longer have any specialist advice service provided by Camden CAB and unfortunately you will now have to seek advice from non specialist advice agencies in Barnet.
Can I do anything about this?
If you are unhappy about this news, you may want to speak to or write a letter to your local Councillor, patient representative or Member of Parliament. You may be able to do this and also remain anonymous. If you would like more information about this, please feel free to contact us.
What happens now?
Where else can I go for help?
We will do our best to make sure that any clients requiring further advice work are referred on to an appropriate agency in Barnet.
With your written permission we are able to provide copies of documents from your file to other advice agencies.
I have attached some information about other advice agencies in Barnet who may be able to help you. Please feel free to contact us on our advice line
020 7284 1575 for further information on where you can go for advice in the future.
I am sorry to be the bearer of such bad news and would like to take this opportunity on behalf of all the team to say what a privilege it has been to work on behalf of the residents of Barnet.
We are very proud of the service we have provided and believe that we have been able to make a real difference to the lives of many of our clients.
If you have any questions or queries please feel free to contact me or your case worker.
We wish you all the best for the future.
Yours sincerely,
Mark Croft
