Camden CAB
Macmillan Welfare Benefits Service - Royal Free NHS Trust
IThe Camden CAB, Macmillan and Royal Free partnership was established in 2009. The advice service is funded by both Macmillan and the Royal Free Trust.
The service operates from the Royal Free Hospital in the Oncology outpatients department and is located next to the Macmillan Cancer Information and Support Centre.
The CAB team working on the project see patients by appointment, at a drop-in based at the Royal Free Hospital or on the wards. Patients are referred via health professionals or they can refer themselves.
Patients are advised on a range of issues, but the single biggest category of enquiry is welfare benefits. Other areas covered include debt, financial management, charity applications and housing. The service undertakes casework to support patients and to resolve income related issues following a cancer diagnosis. They also advise on return to work benefits as well as debt management with the option of making a referral to an in house specialist CAB debt team.
The service makes appropriate referrals so that there is ongoing support for appeals and counselling.
