Trainee Adviser

Function: To provide advice to members of the public over the telephone, in person and via email, text or webchat. Our advice covers a wide range of areas, including welfare benefits, money advice, housing and consumer. In addition to providing advice and on-going casework for clients, Trainee Advisers also keep accurate records and contribute to our Research and Campaigns efforts.

 

Do you have the following attributes?

Skills

  • Good level of written and spoken English
  • Basic numeracy
  • Accuracy in recording
  • Familiarity with IT packages such as Microsoft Word, Internet Explorer and Outlook
  • Ability to work accurately
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to take instruction and act on constructive feedback

Impartiality Whatever their views, Trainee Advisers will be expected to work with all kinds of clients and on any kind of problem they have. They must be prepared to examine their own views and feelings to make sure that they are able to give an equally good service to everyone.

Confidentiality Everything seen and heard in the bureau has to be private and every volunteer has to sign an agreement to observe strict rules of confidentiality before beginning work in the bureau.

Additional information

Hours of work: A minimum availability of two days per week (Monday to Friday) for 18 months is required.

Support and supervision: Day to day support will be provided by the Training Coordinator and Advice Session Supervisors at each of our sites. There will be additional support from the General Help Manager at other times.

Expenses: Reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. If sessions of more than five hours are worked in one day then a contribution of £3.00 can be claimed towards the cost of a meal on production of receipts.
