Great Ormond Street Hospital
We were delighted to be able to set up a new advice service in June 2008 for patients and families at Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital. The establishment of the service resulted from a partnership between the hospital, Abbey Charitable Trust and Camden CAB. Three years funding from Abbey Charitable Trust provides for a full time advice and development worker who is based at the hospital.
Great Ormond Street had identified a need for an independent advice service which would complement and work closely with social workers and family support workers. Families with a sick child often find their lives and income severely disrupted, and patients and their families may have to stay at the hospital for long periods of time.
The new service is able to help with the various problems resulting from a child’s illness and has already helped more than 150 people in its first nine months and raised around £140,000 in addition for clients.
The service will also benefit from a unique evaluation, developed by a clinical research scientist who has volunteered her time.
